Day 8: When God Delivers

Day 8: When God Delivers

By Paulette Phiri

29 But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

30 So the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses.

Exodus 14:29-31 (NKJV)

Picture the sight.

Hundreds of heavily armoured Egyptian soldiers, brandishing newly sharpened spears and swords that could cut you in half, with just one fell swoop.  Horses so heavily weighted in armour that the clang of the chariots, amidst the crashing of the chariot wheels as they race against the rocky terrain is almost as deafening as their stampeding hooves in what once, a few hours earlier, was the cascading waves of the Red Sea.

Then, amongst the clamour, hear the fearful screams of terrified mothers with frightened babies in their arms, panic-stricken, desperate fathers, trying to protect their families, trying to get to safety.  Millions of feet, running and clambering to reach the shelter of the shore.  Hardly noticing the awesome sight of the water wall on the left and right, the elderly and lame were being carried by their kinsmen, frantic to escape the certain death which loomed. The soldiers are closing in!

Then God speaks! Moses stretches out his hand, the water returns over the Red Sea and all is quiet. The people have been saved from the hands of the enemy.

The mighty hand of God that miraculously rescued His people from the forces of Egypt also came through for all those who were oppressed by sin. When all hope seemed lost, Jesus came to the rescue. His sinless life, His death, burial and resurrection ensured a miraculous deliverance for those who place their faith in Him.

As we experience this great work of the Lord in our lives, we too can respond in awe and adoration to Jesus with words penned by Jack P. Scholfield,

Saved by His power divine

Saved to new life sublime

Life now is sweet

And my joy is complete

For I’m saved, saved, saved

Ask - Why did God allow the Israelites to see the Egyptians dead on the seashore?

Seek - Now remember the day God delivered you! What was it that moved your heart to say yes? If you haven’t said yes to Jesus yet – today is the day!

Knock – Think about how many times God has brought you through a Red Sea situation.  Reflect and give God thanks.
