JJ240826 Rest

The day.

The day reminds us of what He did. He worked for six days and rested on the seventh.

The day inspires us to know what He will do. He worked to redeem us so we could enjoy the Rest.

We depend on Him thoroughly from start to finish. We rest to show our dependence on Him. We rest to say that He is our Provider even providing for us the capacity to work. We rest to also say that He has rescued us from this world and its systems that only lead to death. As He triumphed over death and rests in victory, He leads us to victory over death through death to self this world and all that belongs to it. That victory gives us hope that everything that opposes the full flourishing of God’s creation will be defeated. The old will be replaced by the new, and all who trust God shall enjoy the rest for eternity.

Every day belongs to Him—He is not forgotten on the other six or relegated to butler service. Every day is His, and we live for Him in each day. Yet this day is set apart—set apart to cease from work, set apart as a promise of the end of the war, set apart for reflection and restoration, set apart for acknowledgement and adoration.

The day reminds us that He who has done will do. We can trust Him. We can rest in Him.

For His Name's Sake
