But I am trusting you, O Lord,
saying, “You are my God!” Psalm 31:14
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

As we close our journey into delighting in the Lord, our final port of call is the safe harbour called Trust. This is our anchor for every storm. You see, we serve a God who can be trusted.
Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of someone or something. So as it relates to our God, we have the firm belief that He is the someone. Unique in His person and His ways. He is God. We can trust that He is the definition of truth; in fact, it is because we know God that we understand what truth is. His word is truth, and it is 100% reliable all of the time. We can trust in His ability as an all-powerful being who can do anything but fail.
Trust is a rare commodity in our current world. It used to be the case that we would have an ideal for those who would govern us, and we would seek to hold those in public office to a higher standard. I remember a time when politicians would resign for wrongs displayed in the public arena, but sadly, there is no longer a standard. We expect those who rule over us to lie their way into office and lie their way through every interview and public address. We see them holding those they seek to govern to draconian, self-serving agendas and rules, whilst they themselves are exempt from the rule of law. I am reminded of Jesus confronting the Pharisees in Matthew 23, where He called them whitewashed tombs, rebuking them for their harshness and hypocrisy.
But we thank God that we, the people of God, are citizens of another Kingdom, and our king sits on a throne ruled by righteousness and justice. Our present reality is transient and temporary and does not compare to the eternal weight of glory to be found in Christ Jesus. He is who He says He is, and He will do just what He says He will do. God says of His word in Isaiah 55 that He sends out His word and it always produces fruit, it will accomplish all He determines, and it will prosper everywhere He sends it. That is better than one million dollars in the bank. You can depend on your God.
What does it look like when we put our trust in God? Well, we will confidently boast about our God. We will depend on and rely on His character as revealed through His many wonderful names, such as:
- Jehovah Jireh – God who provides.
- El Shaddai – God Almighty speaking of His power and sufficiency
- Jehovah Rapha – The Lord who heals
- Jehovah Nissi – The Lord my Banner, speaking of His victory and protection
- Jehovah Shalom – The Lord is peace
Another name of God that should keep hope springing up within us in these last and evil days is El Olam – The Everlasting God. This reminds us that God’s kingdom will never end. The things in this life are temporary and will come to an end, and God’s eternal kingdom will be established forever. A new order with no more injustice, no suffering, no more struggles, working three jobs and still not able to pay for medical insurance or make groceries. This will end, and those who have delighted themselves in our God will inherit His eternal kingdom, where there will be no end. The fullness of all our joy and our delight in Him will spring afresh each and every day.
God bless you.
Father, we thank you that you are God who can be trusted and that we can build our lives on you, a sure foundation that will never fail. Help us to live lives marked by extraordinary faith as we look forward to an eternity spent in your everlasting kingdom. May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, as we look to you and say thank you. In Jesus name. Amen.
